Stray Xbox release date is confirmed, but will Switch fans get the cat game?
Stray won't be a PlayStation exclusive forever.
If you've been waiting patiently for the Stray Xbox release date, we're pleased to report that your wait is almost over! There's no such luck for Switch fans, though.
Stray, widely known as 'the cat game', first launched in 2022 on PlayStation consoles and PC. A console exclusivity deal meant that Sony's PS4 and PS5 consoles were the only non-PC devices to get the game at launch.
Jump forward a year and Xbox fans are finally on the cusp of getting their paws on Stray, one of the nicest surprises in the gaming world in recent years. Read on to learn more!
When is the Stray Xbox release date?
The Stray Xbox release date is 10th August 2023, the developers have confirmed through their official channels in an appropriately adorable way.
The news was confirmed with the fun little trailer below, which sees the feline hero of Stray interacting with an actual Xbox controller. Cute!
We haven't seen any Xbox Store pre-order pages for Stray yet, but we'll be sure to let you know when they go live! Until then, why not mark 10th August in your diary with a cat emoji?
Which platforms is Stray already available on?
Thanks to its initial launch last year, Stray is available on PS4, PS5 and PC already. If you're playing on one of those platforms, you should be able to buy the game now.
There is a physical boxed edition of Stray available to order at GAME, or the digital download can be bought and accessed now via the PlayStation Store for Sony-supporting players, or Steam for PC-based gamers.
Will Stray ever come to Nintendo Switch?
It seems plausible that Stray will come to Nintendo Switch consoles eventually, but no Stray release date has been confirmed for Switch as of yet.
It's clear that Sony's era of console exclusivity on the game is coming to an end this summer, much to the joy of Xbox owners, so we'll keep our eyes peeled for any further news regarding extra platforms receiving the game.

Here's some good news for you: yes, Stray does run on Steam Deck, with the game's official Steam page marking the game as being 'verified' for use on Steam Deck. So you should be able to run it on Valve's chunky portable PC if you have one. The video below proves it!
